Professional Labs

The School of Communications maintains labs that offer state-of-the-art facilities that allow students to practice skills they learn in the classroom. There are five professionally-oriented labs:

AdLab

AdLab is located in 140 BRMB and is available for use by all accepted students in the advertising sequence. Inside are Macs and PCs equipped with programs such as Microsoft Office and Adobe Creative Suite. The AdLab can be reached at (801) 422-7324.

BYU Newsline

The Newsline Newsroom is located in 150 BRMB and is used for the daily Newsline newscast at noon. Inside are computers available to broadcasting students equipped with Adobe Suite and Grass Valley Studio Automation. The Newsline Newsroom can be reached at (801) 422-6918.

PR Intelligence Lab

The PR Intelligence Lab is a full-service, student-run digital marketing agency sponsored and housed by BYU. The student employees are overseen by industry professionals to make certain every project is completed at a professional level, assisting with SEO, content marketing, paid search and social media campaigns as well as social listening and social intelligence research. The Universe

The Universe is located in 152 BRMB and is where Comms students report and edit for the online Universe and produce BYU’s weekly newspaper. Inside computers and work stations are available to Universe staff and writers. The Universe newsroom can be reached at (801) 422-2957.

BioComms Lab

The BioComms Lab gives students the opportunity to work with cutting edge biometrics technologies such as eye-tracking, facial recognition, galvanic skin response (GSR), and virtual reality, in order to complete projects for both academic research and client-based projects. Working in the lab is open to all students in the Communications program, pending open positions.
